WELCOME TO THE 360° TOUR
OF THE SUNKEN SHIP
IN SISAL YUCATAN

In September 1861, the Spanish steamship “La Unión” was sailing off the coast of Sisal when an explosion in its boiler room caused a sudden fire. The vessel, en route to Havana, sank less than two nautical miles from port — one of the most significant 19th-century shipwrecks on the Yucatán coastline.

Decades later, underwater archaeological investigations confirmed its identity and revealed the ship’s link to the forced transport of Maya people during the Caste War period. Today its remains rest on the seabed as a silent testament to a complex chapter of regional history. Drag inside the panorama below to explore the wreck site from every angle, respectfully and without disturbing the environment.
